School Dinners

Your child is welcome to bring a nutritious packed lunch or have a cooked school dinner.

School Lunch Menu

The menus are rotated every week, to ensure that children experience variety and choice. Every morning children will be asked to choose their lunch from that day's menu. There is a vegetarian choice every day.

School Meals

At North Petherwin we have our own school kitchen and cook, Natasha Wendon. At Werrington, meals are cooked at St. Stephen's Primary School and are delivered and served by our servery assistant Lisa Gregory .

Our school meals are provided by Chartwells and cost £2.30 i.e. £11.50 per week.

Chartwells have a Gold Food for Life Accredited lunch menu.  This is a catering mark for serving fresh food.  The menu includes seasonal produce with at least 75% of dishes freshly prepared by well-trained school cooks.

The following foods will be available daily:

  • Jacket Potatoes with a choice of fillings
  • Freshly baked bread
  • Fresh fruit and vegetables

From September 2014, all KS 1 children (Reception, Year 1 and Year 2) are eligible to receive free school meals.

Dinner Money

We ask that you send dinner monies in on a MONDAY morning in an envelope, with your child's name clearly written on it. Please list which days you wish your child to have school lunches.

Packed Lunches

Please place them in a lunch box clearly marked with the child's name.  For safety reasons please do not include glass, fizzy, canned or hot drinks with packed lunches. We hope that you will encourage your child to eat healthily, as we do in school.  For further information about ways to get healthy and active, visit the Change 4 Life NHS web site.

Snacks

We allow children to bring in a healthy snack at morning break times and all Foundation stage pupils have access to a basket of fruit or vegetables under the Fruit in Schools Initiative.  We do not allow sweets in school.

Milk is available free of charge for pupils under 5 to have at break time.  Milk can be provided for older children at a small charge.

Children also have access to water in school as we have individual water bottles.

Free School Meals

If you think that you may be entitled to free school meals details and forms can be obtained from the school secretary, or directly from County Hall.  Details are available on Cornwall Council Website, which can be accessed via the links below:-
