School of The Month

Werrington Community Primary School is pleased to be the featured School of the Month in the local Post and Weekly News this week.  There are some lovely photographs of the children participating in a variety of activities such as music; gardening; pond dipping; using computers; cooking; PE; science and art, so please look out for the article. This is what the article said:

'Werrington Primary School is a small school within the heart of the community with a great family feel to it. Werrington's teaching staff along with support staff deliver a broad and balanced curriculum to the 44 pupils who attend.

KS2 and KS1 are currently learning about special people and the jobs that they do, this will then lead onto learning about harvest and making scarecrows.  In addition to this curriculum the children have experienced many exciting out of school activities within the last year.  They were lucky enough to visit the Eden project and enjoy ice skating, which the pupils and staff alike thoroughly enjoyed.

The childen also attended the Nine Ashes Camp at Bodmin, in this year's glorious sunny weather for their residential trip, where they were able to take part in activities such as archery and go-karting.  The summer term was finished off with trips to the beach to study artefacts that are washed up with the tide.

Werrington School has very strong links to the community and local church, raising money for local charities, involved with Launceston Foodbank and carnival and attending local church services.  To help with these community links Werrington School has a very hard working FOWSA committee consisting of enthusiastic hard working parents who organise various events within the community to raise funds for the benefit of the school and its pupils.  Such events include pamper evenings, summer fetes, halloween disco, Christmas fete and regular coffee mornings.

The school is very pleased to say that it has recently received the Science Quality Awardmark, Silver Level and ahave been part of the Healthy School Scheme since 2004.

Miss Callow, Werrington's Headteacher said, "Werrington has a wonderful family feel to it and the pupils thoroughly enjoy the varied activities that they can take part in at school."
