Assessment & Reports

Your child's progress is continually assessed in all areas of the curriculum and careful records are kept by each teacher of pupil achievements and work experiences. These assessments are made so that future work can be planned appropriately. Pupils are involved in the assessment of their work and they are aware of their learning targets.

EYFS (Early Years Foundation Stage)

Assessment under the EYFS is divided into:

  • ongoing assessment
  • and the EYFS Profile at the end of the EYFS
Our reception teachers completesan EYFS profile for each child in the final term of the year in which they turn 5. The main purpose is to provide an accurate assessment of individual children at the end of the EYFS. The profile describes each child’s attainment against 17 early learning goals together with a short narrative about their learning characteristics. These can the inform the Year 1 teachers about how to best support and extend children’s learning as they move into KS1.


At the end of Year 2 and Year 6, children undertake Standard Assessment Tasks (SATS). The results of these are sent to the Department for Education (DfES).

Years 3,4 and 5 children undertake non-statutory tests which provide continuous assessment in both English and Maths throughout their primary school years. These are used by their teachers to support their assessments.

Annual Reports and Consultations

Parents are invited for parent-teacher consultation meetings twice yearly. These sessions provide the opportunity for teachers to share with parents, the progress and success of their child throughout the year and for parents to discuss their child's school experience. Annual reports are sent to parents at the end of the Summer term.

Parent Forums are held at the beginning of each term, usually at the end of the school day. These meetings provide a good opportunity for the staff to give an overview of the learning to be done in the term ahead and for parents to feel more involved in their child's learning.

Parents are always welcome to visit school to discuss their child's learning by making an appointment to see your child's teacher at a mutually convenient time.
Ofsted Reports

OFSTED (Office for Standards in Education, Children's Services and Skills) inspects all state schools in England at least every three years. After the inspection is done, OFSTED publishes a report which is available to the public.

Our key principles for assessment recording and reporting are that they:

  • are a continuous process which informs planning, target setting and tracking progress which is moderated to ensure accuracy
  • are age appropriate
  • demonstrate what a child knows, understands and can do, based on recorded observation and evidence
  • give a clear picture of the whole child using a multi-disciplinary approach and a wide range of evidence
  • provide feed-back for staff, pupils, parents and carers
  • are realistic and manageable
  • help to identify resourcing needs and levels of support
