Welcome to the Dragonflies Class

A warm welcome to the Dragonflies class which is also known as Class 3. Class 3 consists of Years 4, 5 and 6. Our class teachers are Miss Andrew (Mon-Weds), Miss O'Malley (Thurs&Fri) and Miss Singleton who also does a wonderful job of supporting us in our learning. We are a creative, hardworking and respectful class and we always try our best in all that we do. In fact, our whole school shares these values and we help one another and show each other kindness. Every member of the class are valued and we love to work alongside parents and carers to help your child achieve their potential. Not only do we aim to do the best that we can do but we have lots of fun and laughter. We are proud to welcome anyone to our family.

In our class we strive to use our learning characteristics to help us and others in our learning. Our learning characteristics are to be: curious, collaborative, brave, reflective and independent. Creativity is one of Miss Andrew's favourite characteristic because she is a practising artist so she is naturally keen to look for ways to be unique in her teaching and learning. This is something the children are excited about when they come to Class 3 as they know they will get a lot of opportunities to be creative and learn things from a specialist teacher. Miss Andrew leads art across the AnDaras Trust and has recently embarked upon a new skill - printing! Miss Andrew always encourages children to try new things - even if it means there are a few mistakes along the way. Learning is like a rollercoaster and our teacher knows how to encourage and challenge all children she teaches, no matter where they are in their learning journey.

Not only do we really love art in Class 3, but reading is one of our favourite times of the day and we are currently enjoying 'There's a Wizard in my Closet' and 'Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets'. Another favourite author of ours is David Walliams and Michael Morpurgo. Everyone has their own book in school and we enjoy reading every day. Reading is really important and we want our children to develop a love of reading and books. We are using the Accelerated Reader scheme in school and your child is able to choose a book at their reading level to take home and enjoy! They will then be able to take a quiz to see how well they understood the book and accumulate reading points. Talking about the text is important. You can ask your child questions to help encourage their reading comprehension. More information can be found on the Oxford Owl website or pop a message to me on dojo to seek any support. https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/for-home/oxford-owl-videos/reading-comprehension-videos/.

PE for Class 3 is on Monday and Thursday afternoons. Please ensure your child comes to school wearing their full and proper PE kit on these days. No logos or slogans. Please see our PE uniform policy as we pride ourselves on our children looking their smartest.

We are a 'Healthy School' which means we encourage your child to bring in low sugar snacks, water instead of juice and a healthy lunch.

Our class page and Dojo will be kept as up-to-date as possible so that you can see all of our wonderful learning! This is where you will see all of my notices so please do get in contact with me if you are not yet logged on to see your child's Dojo page. If you have any questions, queries or problems throughout the year then please feel free to make contact through dojo or call the school to arrange a socially-distanced meeting.

Please see documents below such as the curriculum overview and our homework menu.

I thank parents for your support and to those interested in our school, I hope you come for a prospective visit soon.
